The black nazarene is enshrined in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
The veneration of the Black Nazarene is very popular to us Filipinos because of our religious piety and devotion to the sufferings of Jesus Christ. Many devotees of the Black Nazarene attribute their poverty and struggles in the daily society to the wounds and tribulations of Jesus Christ, as represented by the Black Nazarene.
I myself have my devotion to the Black Nazarene, it started since I was born. During my birthday my Mom or my Lola brings me to Quiapo church. This started because I was born on a Good Friday (That was also the reason why my second name is Jesus) and Quiapo church is a Friday church, what I meant was, devotees visit the church every Friday especially during first Friday of the month. It was my Mom and my Lola who imparted me this devotion that I need to visit and attend mass to the church during my birthday.
Awhile ago, Mom and I visited the church since it's Friday, It's Quiapo day. It is also my visit for my birthday since we'll not be here in Manila on holy week, because my birthday falls on Maundy Thursday and we'll celebrate it in our province. While inside the church I realized, it has been 22 years that I always come to visit the church, and it was a 22 years of many many blessings. It's not only during my birthday that visit the church, I do visit the church if I'm praying for something, or if I have a big problem. I can tell that all my prayers were answered and there were times I received more than what I prayed. I really love to attend mass at Quiapo church, but it's too far from our home.
I would like to thank my Mom and my Lola for sharing this devotion to me, a devotion that I will continue and pass on to my children. Thank you for bringing me closer to God.
Thank you Padre Jesus Nazareno
